TBNSW WELCOMES NEW COMMITTEE MEMBER 
Mr John Muir, President of Thoroughbred Breeders NSW Limited (TBNSW) has great pleasure in announcing that Mr Paul Whelan of Luskin Park Stud has been appointed to the TBNSW Committee.
Mr Whelan, a former Minister in the New South Wales Labor Government, is the proprietor of Luskin Park Stud, a boutique stud at Luskintyre in the Hunter Valley.
Mr Whelan fills the vacancy on the Committee created by the retirement of Mr Richard Turnley. Mr Whelan stated "I am delighted to join the TBNSW Committee and look forward to advancing the interests of NSW breeders."
TBNSW President Mr Muir commented "TBNSW is most fortunate to have found such an outstanding replacement for Mr Richard Turnley. Mr Whelan brings a wealth of knowledge to the Committee which will prove invaluable to TBNSW".
Mr Muir also paid tribute to outgoing Committee Member Mr Richard Turnley citing the monumental amount of time devoted not only to TBNSW and Thoroughbred Breeders Australia (TBA) by Mr Turnley, but also the thoroughbred industry. He stated "I cannot thank Mr Turnley enough for his tireless dedication to our industry and wish him every success in his future endeavours."

During his vintage season of 2005-06, John Moore often said
it was the "luck of the Irish" when the bob of the head went
his way at unlikely times, so when Plezayre was signalled as
the winner of the CUHK Alumni Cup (1,000m) yesterday it may
have been the turning point in the term.
"I didn't think he'd won. In fact, I don't think anybody
did, but the number went up - a bit of Irish luck," Moore
said as Plezayre (Olivier Doleuze) completed a winning
double on the card.
Moore's yard has endured a tough season after stretching
John Size for the championship a year ago, with high
handicaps and a virus or two getting the blame for the most
part. But the stable is starting to run on for the last part
of the season.
"I hope we're going to finish it off OK. If you look at them
in the yard, the horses are starting to really look well in
the coat again and that's the signal things are on the
improve," Moore explained.
Plezayre has done a tradesmanlike job with three wins for
the season and Moore said he put it down to the horse's
genuine attitude.
"He's been something of a surprise, but he does try hard,"
Moore said. "I bought him as a yearling and he never grew
very much, which has held him back a bit, but you can't
fault his attitude."
Plezayre Does It In Hong Kong.
The Luskin Park bred and sold Plezayre (Snippets x Lezayre) saluted the judge first past the post in Hong Kong last night (10th Feb). Trained by John Moore, the Snippets gelding three wins from his short career. Racing at Sha Tin on the all weather dirt track, Plezayre led for the majority of the race, getting away with an easy lead, sprinting away from the field on the turn to hold on for a narrow, but decisive victory.
Plezayre's half brother by Rock Of Gibraltar sold through the recent Magic Millions sale, going for $80,000 to Robbie Sage of South Africa.
Magic Millions Wrap Up.
Luskin Park headed to the 2007 Magic Millions on the Gold Coast with 11 yearlings of quality, and results showed that their draft was well received.
The highlight for the Luskin Park team was Lot 181, the Elusive Quality (USA) colt that went to the final bid of trainer John O'Shea for $275,000. Always the stand out from the draft, the colt will get every chance in the Randwick stable's of O'Shea. Fellow Randwick trainer Graeme Rogerson fresh for outlaying $800,000 on one of the top tops, went to $125,000 to secure Lot 129, the Danehill Dancer colt from the unraced daughter of Group One winner Midnight Ballet.
Lot 82, the first of the Luskin Park draft to enter the ring was well received, being knocked down to South African Robbie Sage for $80,000. While the Queensland based Wadham Park purchased Lot 418, the Giant's Causeway (USA) filly from the Luskin Park raced Ultimate Fever for $75,000.

Sire Strength A Highlight For Luskin Park.
Paul Whelan’s Luskin Park Stud heads to this year’s Gold
Coast Magic Millions with a draft of 11 yearlings, in what
Paul has described as, “the best draft I have had for any
sale, with many of the yearlings being of Easter quality.”
The strength in the Luskin Park consignment comes from the
array of stallion represented within the impressive draft.
With the 11 yearlings offered being by 10 different sires,
there is sure be universal appeal to every sector of the
market.
Lot 82, the first yearling from the draft to go through
the ring is a strapping type, “an early comer, very much in
the mould of his sire Rock Of Gibraltar.” From the Keltrice
mare, Lezayre, the colt is a half brother to the recent Hong
Kong winner Plezayre (pictured left). The colt is also bred
on the successful Danehill/Keltrice cross that has produced
stakes performers Miss Mooney Mooney, Megadeal and Albaicin.
The next offering from the Luskintyre based property is
Lot 129, a Danehill Dancer (IRE) colt from an unraced
daughter of Group 1 winner Midnight Ballet. Bred in the
purple, this colt’s sire continues to produce numerous
winners highlighted by the recent stakes winner, the
unbeaten Danehill Smile. The female family of this colt is
littered with stakes winners of the calibre of Startling
Lass, Shovhog, the previously mentioned Midnight Ballet,
Shovoff, Astrodame and Leveller.
“A magnificent Elusive Quality colt, an absolute stunner who
will go early”, stated an enthusiast Paul Whelan when
talking about
Lot 181. From the winning Night Shift (USA) mare, Only
One Night (FR), the colt has been attracting rave reviews
from all those who have inspected him on the farm.
Session Two will see three offerings from Luskin Park with
Lot 313, a Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) filly from winning
Green Desert (USA) mare Sequin (IRE), sure to attract plenty
of interest. Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) has produced some high
quality stakes performing fillies in Australasia including
Just Dancing, Bonaichi, Enemy of Average, Zizou, Pure Joy
and Fun In Flight, while the Mr Prospector (USA)/Green
Desert (USA) cross has proven quite successful, producing
multiple Group 1 winner, and now successful NZ shuttle
stallion Almutawakel (GB), the sire of multiple NZ stakes
winner Wahid (NZ).
Lot 326 is a filly from Danehill Dancer (IRE) from the
placed Nureyev (USA) mare Sidereal Time (USA). Bred on the
same cross as successful sire Desert King (IRE), the sire of
the great Makybe Diva (GB), the grand-dam of this filly is
the multiple stakes winner, Traverse City (USA).
 The
final offering of session two for Luskin Park is
Lot 418, a chestnut filly by Giant’s Causeway (USA) from
the Luskin Park raced Listed Gosford Slipper winner Ultimate
Fever (pictured left). Described by Whelan as a “very
correct filly, who is just beautiful to look at, a mirror
image of her mother,” this filly is sure to attract plenty
of attention on looks alone.
Session four will see Luskin Park offer
Lot 703, the second foal of Group 3 winning At Talaq
(USA) mare Fuss by the Widden Stud based Belong To Me (USA).
Whelan feels that this filly is, “full of strength and
vitality, and although she is going to be better with time,
we all know that it is typical of the Belong To Me (USA)
progeny.”
Bred on the same cross that has produced Magic Millions 2YO
winner Bradbury’s Luck, Gr 2 and 3 winner Danger Looms, and
one of the most impressive 2YO’s of the season to date in
Murtajill, a ¾ brother to Bradbury’s Luck, this filly is
sure to one of the highlights of Session Four.
 A
few lots later will see the only Danewin filly in the sale,
Lot 715 enter the ring. From a city winning half-sister
to the stakes placed Luvuleo (pictured left), the filly
comes from the family of the stakes-winning,
stakes-producing Danehill (USA) mare Almazyoon and the
impressive five time Hong Kong winner, Supreme Class.
With session five proving more and more popular each year,
Luskin Park will offer three yearlings in what is the first
of the non-select sessions in the catalogue.
Lot 746 is the first foal of Hennessy (USA) mare
Ashfords Girl by Sadler’s Wells multiple Gr 1 winning son,
Galileo (IRE).
Lot 763 sees a black colt by 1997 2YO Magic Million
winner General Nediym, from an unraced Snippets mare. From
the stakes winning family of Not On Friday, Saturday Fever,
Phantom Thief and Noble Heights, the colt has been described
by Whelan as, “a fine type, who will definitely go early,
just like his sire.”
The final offering from the Luskin Park draft will see
Lot 765, a chestnut filly by multiple Gr 1 globe trotter
Choisir from the AJC P.J. Bell Hcp Listed placegetter,
Bouchette. Bred on the extremely successful Danehill
(USA)/Canny Lad cross, responsible for Gr 1 winners
Redoute’s Choice and Desert War, this filly is sure to be
highly sought after during session five.
